Foot Pain prevention

It’s a lot easier to keep your feet healthy, than to fix them once they start to hurt.

If you wear heels or tight shoes, or stand on your feet for long periods of times, or even if you wear flip flops, your feet will eventually start to develop a variety of ailments including bunions, hammer toes, crooked toes and other types of foot pains. A few simple things can make a large difference in the long turn comfort of your feet.

Obviously, we feel that wearing our foot alignment socks is one of the best things that you can do. They gently spread your toes the way that nature intended. Did you know that you should have as much flexibility and dexterity in your toes as you do in your fingers? They help to relieve the daily wear and tear that our feet take while giving the feeling of a light massage.

In addition, there are a variety of exercises and activities that you can preform.

Calf Stretch

The first is a simple Calf Stretch.  Wearing shoes with raised heals shortens calf muscles and the plantar fascia. To do this exercise, simply put the front part of your foot up on a slightly raised surface, and allow your heals to lower. Remember to keep your knees straight, and your feet pointed forward.

A great way to remember to do this exercise is to keep a small dome or rolled up towel under your bathroom sink, and simply stretch your calves while you brush your teeth!

Toe Exercises

Our second exercise is a fun one that takes a bit of concentration.  They are simply Toe Exercises.  Your feet are designed to be just as dexterous as your hands!  You can improve circulation, neurology and overall foot health by exercising and moving each of the toes independent of the others.  It may be harder than you think.  You can start with the big toe and work your way across, and then back again, even giving a little assistance by resisting the toes that are not being worked.

Double Calf Stretch

Tightness in the backs of your legs can adversely affect the alignment of your pelvis, leading to problems with the pelvic floor as well as the spine and shoulders. Feet and knees straight, see if you can get the lower back to look less like a camel (with a hump) and more like a shallow bowl.

Top of Foot Stretch

Stretch out the muscles and tendons that get stuffed into tight fitting shoes, by laying down the top of your foot behind you.  Start with the toe nails, and roll the foot forward bringing the ankle toward the ground.

If you are looking for long term foot health for you or your friends or family, My-Happy Feet socks make a great gift for anyone for any occasion.
